Heritage Crafts Revived!

This Sunday’s Family Fun Day will see the beginnings of the new Heritage Crafts Education Programme at ArtworksMK. Heather Zeale, the centres newly recruited Heritage Crafts Learning Coordinator will be on site to chat and share her enthusiasm about this exciting Heritage Lottery funded project. The project seeks to raise the profile, promote and preserve local Heritage Crafts, such as Lacemaking, Pottery and Leatherwork. For example, nearby Olney was a lace making town.

On Sunday Heather will be looking to recruit volunteers to help facilitate the programme, Crafts people and educators to share their skills and any memories, stories and information about crafts that were practiced in this area during the last 300 years.

A Revival For Stained Glass?

A recent article in the FT speculates that stained glass may see a revival in domestic environments as a result of new technologies and movements in Asia, as well as the thirst for stained glass in the home which can produce spectacular results, transforming ordinary rooms into the extraordinary.

We have seen the rise in popularity of this exciting and rewarding medium here at Artworks, where the demand for courses using glass has risen. To cater for this, we have a workshop running on the 12th May with professional stained glass artist Anna Conti, and everyone, at all levels of ability, is welcome. Details can be found here.

All Change @ Artworks!

It’s all change, here at Artworks! Tracey Clarke, our Executive Director, has moved on to the Crafts Council and we’re currently interviewing for a new Director.

We’ve had to say a sad farewell to our fabulous administrator, Candice Thurston, and we’ve given a great big welcome to Heather Zeale, the new Heritage Craft Learning Coordinator.

Despite the changes, it’s still business as usual – we continue to deliver wonderful and enjoyable arts and craft courses for all levels of ability in a unique environment – all at incredible value! Have a look at our current programme here.

FANTASIC WEEKEND AT artworks-mk

Successful weekend of workshops, and lots of positive feedback. Passing visitors enjoying the sun and stopping for a cuppa. More workshops this weekend inc. Pottery Throwing and Something for the Garden, with our Textile Artist Deb Wilkinson. Site is looking really good during the summer with fresh new art in the Barn Gallery

WE’VE BEEN HAVING LOTS OF FUN AND EXCITING TIMES!

On Saturday 3 of us (myself, Emma and Debbie) formed an artworks-mk team and walked 10 miles at midnight. We did the Moo Walk and raised lots of money for Willen Hospice. Thank you for those of you who supported us.

Yesterday we went to Art In Action at Waterperry Gardens and had a super day. We sourced lots of new makers and tutors and ate some very nice food!
