MK Festival Of The Arts
The Milton Keynes Festival of the Arts for Music, Dance, and Speech & Drama was founded in 1968 by a group of residents in Bletchley, and 40 years on it is as old as Milton Keynes itself and still attracting large numbers of performers.
Last year’s festival attracted over 2,000 performers, 95% of which were children of school age, and we are now working hard to put together the syllabus for the 2009 Festival, which will be sent to you very soon.
The festival runs for five weeks throughout February and early March and comprises a dance, music and drama festival, all organised separately at different local venues, Church of Christ the Cornerstone (Music Festival), Chrysalis Theatre (Speech & Drama Festival) and Thornton College and Chrysalis Theatre (Dance Festival).
The Festival is run by a small team of dedicated volunteers on an entirely self – financing basis, as an educational charity, to encourage the development and enjoyment of the performing arts in our area, for adults and children of all ages and levels of ability.
The accent of Milton Keynes Festival is to value every performance and make it a special, meaningful but nonetheless enjoyable event for those taking part, rather than an accent on “winning”.
In April of this year, we held our 40th anniversary Gala Concert, and the attached newsletter not only gives an overview of this event, it also gives the dates and venues of the 2009 Festival, and details of our adjudicators, and further information about the festival itself.
The dance, music and drama festivals all include opportunities for solo or group performances and a syllabus will be published in the next few weeks either in hard copy or downloadable from our website: www.miltonkeynesfestival.org
If you would like further information contact Pat Haig on 01908 504779 who will be happy to answer any queries you may have. We welcome people who have not entered before.
