Ring in a Day with Nigel Read – £50

Learn the processes and techniques of basic ring making in this workshop with Nigel. “Wearing something you have made is such a joy and to make for someone else is wonderful” said one participant. No experience necessary, just a creative idea. Bring images for inspiration.

Bangle / Pendant weekend workshop – £92

A wonderful gift for Easter, a handcrafted personalised piece of jewellery. Working alongside artworks-mk’s Studio Goldsmith Glenn for two days from initial design through to finished piece. Glenn has worked in the goldsmithing industry for many years until he decided to focus on his own practice. His knowledge is invaluable.

Surface Decoration with Carol Jacobs£53
In this workshop you will discover fascinating ways to decorate ceramic tiles, including impressing, inlaying, carving and stencilling. By also using sponging, etching, trailing and painting techniques, you can create beautiful unique tiles for your home and friends. Includes firing.
  
Printed Books with Christine Tacq – £46

Cutting, folding and tearing paper may seem like child’s play but prepare to be amazed at how creative you can be. Book forms are then printed with type and text and by using different textures to make unique relief prints, evolve into beautiful personally made books.

Creative Printing with Erin Taft – £44

Do you wish that you could have the time to design and make your own cards or something interesting for that space in your home, well now is the time. Using block printing and mono printing methods, Erin will show you how to go beyond the basics and explore through layering, drawing and using mixed media.

Animal Sculpting with Diana Tonninson – £60

If you have never sculpted in clay then you are missing out on a sublime activity. With Diana’s expert tuition you will soon learn unique methods for construction, from building the armature, adding the clay and manipulating the structure to form your animal, favourite pet or rhinoceros all in a day!  

Transfer Paints with Catherine Hursthouse – £50

Transfer paints are a simple yet extremely effective way of using dye to apply colour onto fabric. Catherine will focus on exploring a variety of methods using the paints to make a range of sample pieces for small projects. Especially tailored for those with an interest in surface design.

Silver Spoon with Louise Cheshire – £56

Louise is an accomplished silversmith who has exhibited at Origin, British Silver Week, and Goldsmiths Fair amongst others. In this workshop Louise will guide you through the processes used for creating a small unique silver spoon. Using traditional tools and techniques.

Sheepskin Mule with Samantha Gillan – £72

Cosy toes all year round! Using the traditional hand lasting technique, which using a hand held last (this is the moulded shape for the shoe or slipper) starting with the sole, then the insole and putting in place the sheepskin pattern piece onto your ‘last’ to create a wearable pair of quality hard wearing slippers. Jimmy Choo famously said  “everyone wants to be a shoe designer no one wants to be a craftsman” After this workshop you will disagree!

Re-usable Shopping Bags with Erin Taft – £46

We are all conscious of our carbon footprint and the effect on the planet, so why not go one step further and make your own reusable shopping bag. Using block print and appliqué techniques you can then enhance your shopper to make it totally yours with personalised design using mixed media.

Decorative Tiles with Deborah H Wolpe – £47

Deborah is a successful maker who has lived in the region for many years. Working with coloured slips discover different ways of decoration onto your hand built tiles or pots, using porcelain trimmings and a paper resist technique.                                           

Enamelling with Clare Layton – £52

Enamelling is the ancient technique of surface decoration by way of kiln heating enamel onto a metal plate. The results are always amazing as the colours run and melt into each other, each piece being totally individual. The finished pieces can then be made into jewellery, key rings etc.

Saturday 15th May 2010 – 10to 4pm

Inlaid Clay Fossil with Deborah H Wolpe – £47

No level of experience is needed for this fun workshop with Deborah. Using different types of clay to make flat tiles or rolled pieces, which can then be draped into moulds to form a shallow dish. The clay is then decorated with fossil forms by inlay and press work.  

 

Saturday 22nd May 2010 – 10 to 4pm

Fused Glass with Helen Slater – £50

Another chance to take part in this popular workshop, in which you have the opportunity to create your own personally designed piece of glass for a window, or for a space in the home.  Using strong design elements and colour you can create a fantastic piece of decorative glass.

Embroidered Bowls with Catherine Hursthouse – £50

In this workshop Catherine will show you how to set up your machine for free machine embroidery and demonstrate the techniques for stiffening and moulding your bowl shape. Working on a simple design using machine embroidery and silk fibres you can produce a stunning piece for your home or as a gift.   

Saturday 29th May 2010 – 10 to 4pm

Cuttle Fish Casting with Clare Layton – £55

Cuttlefish casting is a method of gravity casting with using centrifugal force. The technique is ancient, it’s the way Anglo Saxons might have cast rings for kings. You will discover how much detail can be impressed and reproduced in metal. Carve into the cuttlefish bone or use buttons etc to impress into it to make your unique piece of jewellery.                            

Printed Books with Christine Tacq – £46

A repeat of the earlier workshop with Christine. Create richly coloured printed pages for a traditional concertina book. Making collagraph (collage on card) prints to embellish your own hand made book.
