Saturday 28th January 2012 –  Japanese Wood Block Printing with Laura Boswell

Laura spent time doing a residency in Japan to learn the techniques of this beautiful craft. Sharing her skills is something she is passionate about. Design, cut and print using a water colour rice paste, learn how to register (align) different colours to layer your print. Saturday 11th February – Enamelling with Clare Layton

Enamelling is an ancient technique used to create surface decoration. Enamel is placed onto a piece of copper and then heated in a small kiln. The results are amazing as the colours run and fuse into each-other, making each piece totally unique. Finished work can be combined with other pieces or findings to create items of jewellery. £54

 


Saturday 11th & 12th February – Ceramic Clocks & Glazing on 3rd March with Mark Compton
In this two day workshop you will learn about clay construction and manipulation. Designing and making an individual clock face for your home or as a present. Using a variety of ceramic forming tools and equipment you can decide on a very modern look or a detailed and highly decorated clock face. Please bring images for inspiration. Some experience of ceramics useful but not essential. £120 for 2 1/2 days

This increasingly popular workshop with talented glass artist Helen, will take you through the various stages of preparation, resulting in beautiful kiln formed glass window hangings, or pieces for jewellery.  The glass can be combined with other materials including metal.  Helen will also explain glass compatibilities and properties.  £50  Please download Workshop Details

 


 Saturday 3rd March – Approaching Portraiture with Christine Gallagher

This workshop aims to introduce an approach to drawing a successful portrait and achieving a likeness of your subject. Working with a life model, you will be introduced to a range of drawing techniques and methods of observation – how to construct a good composition and use photography to record the information you’ll need to take your drawings to the next stage.

Saturday 17th March – Cuttlefish Casting with Clare Layton

Cuttlefish casting is a way of casting metal (silver) with using centrifugal force. Items, for example a button, are impressed into the cuttlefish to form a mould. Then moulten silver is poured into the mould to take the shape. Quite a lot of detail can be obtained by this ancient method of casting. The cuttlefish can also be carved into directly. Anglo Saxons would have used this process to make rings for royalty.  The cost of silver is not included in the workshop price£45

 


Saturday 24th & Sunday 25th March – Hedgerow Basket Making with Sheila Wynter

Working alongside  renowned Basket Maker Sheila, you will use the pre-collected locally sourced hedgerow to create your baskets. Traditional basket making methods are used to form beautiful baskets which can be varied in size and shape. The stunning colours of the branches make the baskets especially decorative. £120

Saturday 31st March – Drawn Lettering Modern Capitals with Cindy Wonnacott

Learn how to draw beautiful modern Versal letters. Cindy will show examples of work by Eric Gill and contemporary lettering artists. The lettering can then be applied successfully to other mediums including clay, textiles, wood and glass. You will learn strategies for drawing / transfer and techniques. Saturday 31st March – Sculpting Heads

This exciting workshop is an introduction to sculpting with clay. Using a basic armature and a life model, this workshop with Carol is designed to give you an understanding of working three dimensionally. Using various modelling tools you will learn to apply the clay, layering to create shape and form. The beauty of this method is if it seems wrong, simply scrape away and start again. This workshop is not so much about detail but about structure and balance. £58
