10 WEEK TERM TIME WORKSHOPS
artworks-mk now have an exciting opportunity to deliver term time courses, at our Great Linford site. Workshops take place in our specialist craft resources.
Courses are designed for all abilities. Learning is structured, but informal and fun, the emphasis is on being creative in a friendly atmosphere. Please see further details below, or simply contact a member of staff who will be happy to answer any questions, on: 01908 608108.

Monday 10 am – 12 pm starting 9 January. Cost £ 120 for 10 weeks
Artist – Sally Bostock
At the beginning of each session, a technique, such as working from the mid tones, or using colour therapy to enliven your paintings, will be covered and demonstrated. As a group, we also spend some time each session exploring and discussing a variety of artists, contemporary and otherwise. The rest of the session is devoted to working with you on your individual project pieces.
Monday 1 pm – 3 pm starting 9 January. Cost £ 120 for 10 weeks
Artist – Sally Bostock
Each session opens with some time spent covering a technique such as colour therapy, transparent and opaque pigments, and we spend a little time as a group exploring and discussing a variety of artists we like. Then the rest of the session is spent working on your individual projects with tutor mentoring. There is a short tea break with the group midway, and your own aims are discussed at the end of each session.
Monday 1 pm – 3 pm starting 9 January. Cost £ 144 for 10 weeks
Artist – Clare Layton
This is a project based course so some experience of silversmithing and jewellery is essential. Under the guidance and expertise of Clare you will focus on design, construction and completion of work. You will gain a further understanding of contemporary silversmithing techniques and produce work of real quality. The workshop cost does not include materials.

Tuesday 1 pm – 3 pm starting 10 January. Cost £ 120 for 10 weeks
Artist – Kirsteen Holuj
You will be encouraged to develop your own projects, either hand building or on the potters wheels. For beginners you will work through the different making techniques – slabbing, coiling, modelling and throwing. You will also learn how to decorate and glaze your own work.
Tuesday 7.30 pm – 9.30 pm starting 10 January. Cost £ 120 for 10 weeks
Artist – Mark Compton
If you are a complete beginner of have had some experience working with clay this is a great workshop with Mark. Using traditional tools and equipment you will learn to shape clay, by coiling, wrapping, hand building and throwing. You will also learn about glazes and the many different effects which can be achieved. Make either sculptural pieces or items to use in the home. The cost of clay, glazing and firing is extra to the cost of the workshop.

Wood Turning
Monday 7pm – 9pm starting 20 February. Cost £ 72 for 5 weeks
Artist: Nigel Read
In this workshop you will work at your own pace with lots of advice and instruction from Nigel. If you are a complete beginner or have some experience and want to work on a specific project then this course is for you. Using lathes and toola in our fully equipped wood work room, make anything from bowls to banisters. Lots of information about seasoning your wood, oiling and varnishing.
Seasoned wood can be purchased during the workshops.

Tuesday 1 pm – 3 pm starting 21 February. Cost £ 60 for 5 weeks
Artist – Sarah Wright
This is another workshop where you are able to work at your own pace. You will start at the beginning by exploring line shape and form, then progressing on to texture, light, dark and composition. The workshop focuses on your own personal development. If you have not drawn since school or you keep a sketch book this is a fun and informative 5 week course.

Tuesday 7 pm – 9 pm starting 22 February. Cost £ 83 for 5 weeks
Artist – Iain Hodgkinson
This is informative and exciting course takes you through a series of different printmaking techniques. You will work on basic, but hugely effective mono printing and lino cutting, experiment with collographs and the woodblock printing process. This then allows you the confidence to further experiment with various techniques to produce top quality exciting prints.

Jewellery Making Techniques
Wednesday 7 pm – 9 pm starting 22 February. Cost £ 4 for 5 weeks
Artist: Nigel Read
In these workshops you will look at the design and manufacture of some simple pieces of jewellery. Using traditional jewellery making techniques and processes you will gain a knowledge of tools and equipment and create beautiful highly crafted work, from bangles to earrings and rings to brooches.
The cost of silver is additional to the workshop price.

Artist – Sarah Wright
Drawing of the human form is centuries old and as a discipline is something practiced by most contemporary artists. This series of workshops will enable you to develop at your own pace with plenty of guidance and advice from artist Sarah. Feel free to bring a sketch book with you. Paper is available to buy. Basic drawing materials are available.

Friday 10 am – 12:30 pm starting 24 February. Cost £ 121 for 6 weeks (2.5 hour sessions)
Artist – Roy Holding
Royis a very well renowned artist who has work in homes and institutions all over the world. In this ever popular workshop he will lead you through the many varied techniques for working with mixed media. A canvas will be provided and will a good selection of high quality materials and brushes are included in the workshops price.

Watercolour Techniques
Friday 10 am – 12 pm starting 24 February. Cost £ 100 for 5 weeks
Artist – Jan Pursey Grange
An informal course of workshops and suitable for all levels. Watercolour is a beautiful medium producing stunning results. In these workshops there will be an emphasis of the painting of natural objects and plant forms. There will also be an opportunity to set up a ‘Still Life’ to work from.
Some paints and brushes are available, however participants would be encouraged to establish their own stock of materials.
